Adrian and Chris, at the time, were playing football for Bethel Church Green Lane, in the Merseyside Christian League (MCL), when they had a vision to form a football team based on the youth from West Derby Evangelical Church where they had been members for numerous years.
As the number of potential players from West Derby Evangelical Church was relatively low, attempts were made to recruit players from other churches on Mill Lane in the West Derby Village area. With a couple of additional players from the other churches, ‘FC West Derby’ was formed and the club was registered with the County FA as ‘Mill Lane Churches’.
Within a short period of time, God blessed the newly formed Christian football club with sufficient funds for the team to enter the MCL 2nd Division in 2001. A generous donation from a local businessman who attended West Derby Evangelical Church and a sponsored bicycle ride carried out by Adrian from Liverpool to Pwllheli, North Wales, provided the team with money for pitch fees, a full team kit, goal nets, corner flags and a few match balls.
